Academy of Hair Program
Health & Wellness
The Academy of Hair program is an SHSM program designed to foster a successful and long-lasting career in the field of hair styling and colour application. With an increased demand for hair services, the Hair Apprenticeship Program will allow you to explore a career path in a rapidly growing industry.
The HAP program strives to provide students with theory and hands-on practical knowledge which includes professional ethics of the industry, health and safety practices, and successful business and operational skills. Students refine their skills of client service and expand their knowledge of various application processes for hair services.
Over 2 years, students will complete 16 workplace credits, 1500 hours required by the Ministry of Trades and College and be placed in a co-op at a professional salon. Through this SHSM Health and Wellness program, students will have the opportunity to participate in industry specific certifications to be able to complete all the requirements to obtain a specialized Red Seal on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Students of the HAP program have gone on to have a successful career as hair stylist and or establish their own hair salons, in and out of our community. Upon completion of the program, students can write the licensing test to become a licensed hairstylist.
